Now we've been in this business a while and while we haven't compiled any percentage statistics, we're fairly sure that on many occasions common sense actually vacates a house several days before the occupants do. Perhaps it doesn't like stress. In case it departs your house early, we'd liked to remind you to empty the fridge! Even when you think the fridge is empty, just before the move, check it again. Open all the little compartments just to make sure. In all the confusion it's entirely possible that some usually intelligent member of your family has put something into the obviously empty fridge, and not necessarily food. Take our word for it - we've seen some very odd things in fridges. Cleaning a fridge is a chore nobody likes so take of advantage of it being completely empty and give it a good clean. If you're going to be placing the fridge in storage, wipe it down with some vanilla essence, it helps to keep bad smells and mould away. If you want to keep your fridge smelling nice in your new home, placing a little bicarbonate soda in a small bowl in the fridge might help. We're told it absorbs the nasty smells. |
