Selecting Boxes The boxes at your local supermarket might be free, but they're not designed to hold household items! When you spot that nice large box that looks about the same size as a big packing box, read the box. The chances are it says something about toilet paper or breakfast cereal. And a box full of either of those products is a lot lighter than a box of your kitchenware. Small boxes are of usually much stronger, but using lots of little supermarket boxes will result in it taking longer to carry them into and out of the truck. Packing boxes are specifically designed for moving. They're strong, they're reinforced where they need to be reinforced, and there's a convenient spot on the side for you to clearly label them. Using supermarket boxes that may be weak and damaged can result in them splitting open during the move. Packing boxes are very inexpensive and the few dollars you'll spend on them is well worth it. Marking Boxes Marking your packing boxes will help you as much as it does us. There are two good reasons to list the contents of your boxes, or at the very least, label them so you know which room the content belongs in:
Don't forget to use a good marking pen so you can read what you've written. You can also use different coloured labels for different rooms to make things even simpler. |
