Now the majority of people have the good sense to mark boxes containing fragile items, the only problem is that they don't always mark the box clearly, or mark it where the removalist is likely to see the word 'fragile'.  For instance, writing on or labelling the bottom of the box is not particularly useful. Likewise, if you write 'fragile' in small black letting on the side of the box, the chances of anyone seeing it on the day are extremely remote.

Removalists are usually working quickly to save you money, and you don't really expect them to check every side of every box searching for a 'fragile' label do you? Of course you don't. The most visible place to mark the box is on the top so that the word 'fragile' is immediately visible to anyone who handles the box.

Boxes containing fragile items should be clearly marked, preferably with red fragile stickers. They should be placed on the top and sides of the box so they're highly visible. You should also list the contents of the box on the side in case the removalist needs to know exactly how fragile the item is when positioning it in the truck or in storage.
